The high energy density of lithium-ion batteries provides the ability to quickly charge between resurfacings, maintaining power and eliminating the need for lengthy overnight recharging periods. Charge time is generally equivalent to work time. Recharge for about the same amount of time and you’re back on the ice. With the standard or optional extended capacity battery package the 450 can support a variety of arena schedules. The battery package is smaller and lighter weight. Zero-maintenance lithium-ion batteries are sealed and do not require watering. In addition to their improved resiliency and longer cycle life, lithium-ion batteries do not release gasses during the recharging process and are emission-free.

AC motors and controls introduce new efficiencies and virtually eliminate associated maintenance. Microprocessor controlled chargers communicate directly with the battery pack to optimize cell balancing and charging. The result: longer battery life. Proven and dependable Sevcon® Gen4 controls are built for tough industrial applications. On-board diagnostics provide management of machine functions and status updates.

Robust Powertrain and Hydraulics

The hydrostatic transmission affords unmatched power at any speed. The efficient accessory pump delivers full power and speed to the augers, even while the machine slows for corners. Full hydrodynamic braking with rear drum brakes for additional efficiency. Four-wheel drive and rugged Dana Spicer® axles combine with a hydrostatic transmission and a 64 hp electric motor, providing the most reliable powertrain in the industry.

With a compact wheelbase, the Model 450 enjoys a tighter turning radius, optimizing maneuverability. Its smaller footprint does not compromise the capacities afforded by the larger machines, with strong snow compaction and water tanks to support an efficient operation. Continuously variable hydrostatic pump and motor are axial-piston type, providing superior on-ice power with maximum drawbar pull. The direct shaft driven “piggy-back” mount ensures trouble-free service. Easy access high quality filters. The reliable and efficient hydraulic system provides a smooth and consistent resurfacing performance.

Robust welded steel tubing chassis contributes to the sound construction of the machine. The ergonomically designed operator’s compartment has well-placed controls. Unique to the 400 Series is foot pedal directional control of the machine. This doubles as a safety feature, stopping the machine if the operator’s foot leaves the accelerator pedal. Premium primer and paint, rust-free poly ice making water tank and stainless steel hardware afford corrosion resistance. Exceptional results from our unrivaled down pressure system which puts the power where you need it.

A Legacy of Innovation

Over seventy years ago, in 1949 Zamboni introduced the world’s first ice resurfacing machine. The first electric powered Zamboni ice resurfacers made their debut at the Squaw Valley Winter Olympic Games in February of 1960. As battery technology evolved, the 500 Series included electric powered production machines, setting the standard for electric resurfacing equipment by demonstrating the quality and reliability of our products.
